ARAM Mayhem 4.0 preview: Journey to Stardom in patch 26.21

What is coming in ARAM Mayhem's music update? Check the planned release date, Headliner bands, new augment previews and audition rewards.

Preview checked October 8, 2026. Journey to Stardom is on the Public Beta Environment, or PBE. The planned live patch is 26.21. PBE mechanics can change before release.

Ride a rocket, gamble your life on a takedown, or collect K/DA photocards for another augment. ARAM Mayhem’s next update puts music at the center of the match. Riot’s PBE announcement calls it Journey to Stardom and confirms new augments, Headliners and audition missions. Riot’s PBE announcement.

When does ARAM Mayhem 4.0 release?

Riot’s October 5 preview names patch 26.21. The official patch schedule currently lists October 21, 2026, Pacific time. Patch dates can move, and a scheduled patch date does not establish an exact activation hour for every server. Riot’s announcement, official patch schedule.

Chinese coverage uses the label “Mayhem 4.0,” while English datamine coverage calls this “Set 3.” Both describe this music update. Riot’s PBE title is Journey to Stardom. Chinese coverage also mentions October 22, but an exact China-server rollout has not been independently confirmed here. Chinese preview, Set 3 datamine.

The live 26.20 update is separate. Its Mayhem section contains balance changes, rather than the new Headliner system. Current patch notes.

Headliners change the match rules

Riot’s developer update describes a musical act taking the central stage when players spawn, similar to Arena’s Guests of Honor. Headliners add a persistent match effect and background music. Developer update, PBE announcement.

The October 6 PBE datamine lists eight acts. These are provisional effects, not final patch notes.

Headliner PBE effect summary
True Damage Multikills, shutdowns and tower destruction generate anvils.
HEARTSTEEL Picking stickered augments grants bonuses.
K/DA Collect photocards to earn another augment.
Pentakill Empower a basic ability, then another at level 18.
Cafe Cuties Health relics provide stronger healing and movement speed.
Command Line The first reroll at each augment selection also increases rarity.
Space Groove Dancing triggers a gold reward for everyone.
The Bee Band Collect rewarding honey and avoid damaging bees.

Our take is that the band gives you another reason to adjust your choices between games. An extra augment, an ability boost and stronger relic healing can change what your team needs. That is an editorial reading of the mechanics, not a measured ranking of the bands.

Five new augments to watch

The preview highlights these mechanics. Names and effects below reflect the preview, with final tuning still pending.

  • Get Jinxed lets you ride a rocket that explodes on an enemy champion, structure or terrain.
  • Brass Blast charges a trumpet blast that damages and knocks back enemies.
  • BEES!!! periodically empowers your next ability hit against an enemy champion, launching an exploding beehive.
  • Totentanz blinks you forward and makes you unkillable for five seconds. Earn a champion takedown or die. An assist counts.
  • Salvation triggers below half health, damaging and knocking away nearby enemies while healing nearby allies.

Preview mechanics breakdown.

There is no verified final count of new augments yet. Lists headed “40 new augments” include development records and band-specific upgrades. Riot’s developer explicitly says Heavy Metal is not shipping. A PBE entry alone is not proof that an augment will reach live servers. Datamine, developer clarification.

Audition missions and rewards

Riot confirms band auditions through in-game missions, with rewards that include new augments. These missions have their own rewards outside the existing Mayhem progression track. PBE announcement, developer update.

PBE coverage describes earning Fame through band tracks, with icons, Orange Essence and augment rewards. Reported objectives include dancing at the center of the map and landing eight Snowballs on enemy champions in one game. The previewed sequence runs through Pentakill, HEARTSTEEL, True Damage, K/DA and Worlds missions. Final objectives, unlock rules and the event end date remain unconfirmed here. Progression preview.

Which augments might leave?

PBE coverage reports 14 removals. The list awaits Riot’s final 26.21 notes.

  • Combusting Interest
  • Crit ’n Cast
  • Critical Missile
  • Dimension Shift
  • DropBear
  • Dropkick
  • Fan The Hammer
  • Hide on Bush
  • High Roller
  • Our Healing
  • Poro Stampede
  • Spiritual Purification
  • Ult Bot
  • Yowch, My Coins!

Reported removal list.

Can I use current rankings for the new set?

Current statistics do not measure the unreleased augments or Headliner effects. This preview does not assign them win rates, tiers or proven best champions. Final rules and live observations are needed for those claims.

For the live game, use the augment directory, champion tier list and patch notes. Keep their current-patch results separate from the PBE preview above.
